21, 2017 shut down the entrance of the Ondo State Government house in
Akure with a massive protest over non-payment of their salaries.

The aggrieved players in particular who were protesting for the second time in less than 11 days noted that the government failure in fulfilling earlier promises to the team over the issue was the reason they came out massive.

Sunday Abe who is the captain of Sunshine Stars who are Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) led the protest in Akure.
"We
are here to fight for our right. Myself and my colleague have 7 month
outstanding salaries stuck in only where God knows. Now they said we
should go meet the accountant general of the state. We have been
deceived and betrayed by authorities repeatedly,'' he explained.

also vowed that him and his teammates would not honor their subsequent
Premier League encounters this season in the NPFL unless their demand
are met.
